Which Chicken Coop should you buy?

Are you planning to keep hens for eggs or breed your own chickens? Maybe you’re keen on adding some urban chickens to your garden or outside space? Whatever your reasons for keeping chickens, making sure your birds are safe, healthy, and happy will be your top priority. Therefore, some key questions you should answer before you buy your coop are: How much space do you need to keep chickens? How big does their nesting box need to be? Luckily, there are some great resources out there to help, like The Poultry Club of Great Britain. Here, we have put together their advice on the best-sized coop for your birds.

Why choose a recycled plastic chicken coop from Green Frog Designs?

Manufactured in the UK using 100% recycled plastic: All our chicken coops are designed and manufactured in the UK using recycled plastic waste. This means that our housing is extremely durable, effortless to clean and is eco-friendly, too!

Easy to Assemble: Our recycled plastic chicken coops are delivered to you flat-packed and are quick and easy to assemble and put straight to use. To help you put yours together watch our YouTube video or follow our comprehensive instructions.

Once assembled, your new hen house comes complete with carry handles, so it is easily moved around your garden. And our coops are just as easy to dismantle without damage, should you and your brood ever need to relocate.

Our plastic coops are extremely easy to clean: Two major factors combine to make Green Frog Designs poultry housing so easy to clean. Firstly, the smooth plastic surface of the coop interior allows dirt to be effortlessly and speedily removed using only a brush.

Secondly, because of their flat-pack design, our coops are quick and simple to partially dismantle when it comes to cleaning time. The nest box lid can be easily removed to gain access to freshly laid eggs using quick-release pins. For routine cleaning, the full width back panel detaches in seconds. When it’s time for a more thorough clean, the roof detaches just as easily to provide easy access to all areas of the house, making more stubborn dirt easy to remove using a hose or pressure washer.

Another bonus of a plastic coop is that it dries in minutes, unlike wooden coops, particularly useful for getting your brood back in shelter during winter.

Free UK Shipping: That’s right, we’ll deliver your chicken coop to your door, anywhere in the UK, absolutely free from our manufacturing base in Essex. There are a few exceptions, such as the Scottish Highlands, click here for full shipping information.

25 Year Warranty: Every Green Frog Designs chicken coop is built to last, and a 25-year warranty is included for every sale.

Plus, our plastic coops significantly reduce red mite infestations: Find out how below.

How do our coops reduce red mite infestations?

Why should you keep red mite away from your chickens?

Red mites are nasty, blood-sucking ectoparasites that feast on fowl while they sleep. While this may sound like something out of a horror movie, it is a very real problem for your chickens as a red mite infestation can seriously impact the health of your birds.

Red mites are visible to the naked eye but can prove extremely difficult to spot in small numbers. Plus, they hide in cracks and crevices during the day, making a wooden coop, especially one with a felt roof, the ideal environment for a growing infestation.

How to keep red mite out of your coop?

Plastic chicken houses and coops, such as those made here at Green Frog Designs, have no cracks or crevices and very few joints for red mites to hide in, making it much more difficult for these parasites to grow their population in your coop. (they’re wooden perches – but not an issue as no cracks)

Furthermore, since our poultry houses are easily dis- and re-assembled, cleaning and disinfecting becomes a simple task. Even in winter, our houses are dry and ready for re-occupation in just a few minutes.
